Stainless Steel Western Dee with Sweet Iron Hinged Bristol Barrel (MB 40) Copper Inlay Mouth. This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes. About the mouthpiece: the 40 mouthpiece is an innovative version of the traditional Bristol mouthpiece. The traditional Bristol link typically measures 1 ¾" long and ¾" wide7; in comparison, the Myler Bristol is actually a 1" long barrel with a ⅜" diameter, the same barrel found in the 02. Not only does the Myler Bristol take up less space in the horse’s mouth, but the barrel provides a smooth comfortable surface that minimizes interference with the tongue and palate, compared to the traditional Bristol link which sits at an angle. The 40 has the distinctive curve so the bit wraps the horse’s mouth instead of pinching the bars and lip. The curve also creates more space for the horse’s tongue under the bit. Because the Bristol barrel is hinged, it has a more solid feel and less movement than a traditional Bristol. The hinged Bristol barrel will disperse pressure over the tongue similarly to the 02 and offers the Independent Side Movement .
